On the afternoon of February 17th, GDUFS President ZHONG Weihe met with Mark Smith,Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University in the VIP room of the Administration Building, to promote the establishment of GDUFS-Lancaster University.
The delegation of Lancaster University included Special Advisor and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Robert McKinlay, as well as Chief Administrative Officer Nicola Owen. Too, present were GDUFS Vice-president FANG Fanquan, Dean of International College CHEN Linhan, General Manager of Guangwai Education Group SUN Jianjun, and Deputy Director of International Office of Cooperation and Exchange CAI Hong.

President Zhong appreciated the long-standing support from Lancaster University for the cooperative project. He demonstrated the progress we achieved so far. He pointed out, Nansha district since 2012 has been approved by the State Council to become a state level new economic zone, which has allocated an area of 60 square kilometers to attract five international universities to open campuses. With GDUFS-Lancaster University the first of the five, he hoped that both universities should seize the opportunity and speed up the process with concerted effort.
Like ZHONG, Mark Smith shared the same vision to build a world-class international school. He also noted that he expects progresses and concrete improvements in near future. To ensure the high quality of education, he promised to introduce the leading subjects of Lancaster University, such as business, management, environmental sciences and medicine into the new university.
After that, both parties went on to further negotiate details of the establishment of the new school.
