On January 20th, CHEN Yiwen, a Senior student from the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures, GDUFS won third prize in the 8th All-China Japanese Speech Contest held in Tokyo.
The contest was jointly organized by Nikkei Inc., the China Education Association for International Exchange and the Society of Chinese Professors in Japan, awarding one first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes each year. For this year, the theme was "Japanese Proverbs and Chinese Proverbs". More than 12,000 students from universities all around
China
participated in the preliminary contest among which 16 will receive a ticket for the final contest in
Tokyo
, including a seven-day friendship visit to
Japan
.
The topic for final contest was『中国に紹介したい日本のことわざ——会うは別れの始め』(a Japanese proverb interesting to introduce to Chinese people: "an encounter is always followed by departure".) CHEN Yiwen stated her understanding of encounters and departures by recounting hers with the sado teacher, Murauchi Rinko, three years ago in
Guangzhou
and their reunion in
Tokyo
this time. Her speech deeply touched the audience.

In the session following the impromptu speech, CHEN Yiwen's superb performance was recognized by the judges. Finally, she was awarded the third prize which is also known as the JAL (Japan Airlines) Special Award.
Upon winning the prize, CHEN Yiwen expressed her gratitude to the teachers from the Japanese Department for their special instructions in pronunciation and intonation, grammar and content, speaking skills as well as training of thinking.
