From August 29thto September 8th, the first Chinese Summer Camp of the Republic of Cape Verde University Confucius Institute was held at GDUFS. During the period, the students participated in various cultural activities - experiencing Chinese culture by studying and practicing.

There were multifarious activities during the summer camp. In the first week, the students mostly studied Chinese language and culture. In the final week, in spite of having lessons and taking exams, the students also went on on-site cultural explorations. During these, they all tried to comprehend the local customs and took part in different folk activities when they were in different places. Besides, the students gave a performance with Chinese characteristics – Chasing Dreams in the Distance and danced the traditional dance of the minority Republic of Cape Verde – Funana. In addition, the students visited some places with the characteristics of the South China like Chen Clan Academy and Baomo Garden. They also visited Flower City Square, Beijing Road, Guangzhou Library, and Guangdong Museum, where they broadened their horizons and experienced the friendliness and the sincerity of Guangzhou citizens.
Culture course
On the closing ceremony, LIANG Xuehong, the Dean of the Institute for International Education, awarded the certificates to the students and encouraged them to study Chinese well so that they can contribute to the cultural exchange between China and the Republic of Cape Verde as well as Chinese education. Ms SU Chun, the leading teacher, summed up the characteristics and the results of the summer camp.

Larissa, the representative of the students, expressed her gratitude to Chinese Language Council International, Institute for International Education of GDUFS, Republic of Cape Verde University, and the Embassy for the help they offered. Ruben, another representative, stated that learning Chinese changed his life and being selected into the camp was the greatest achievement for him. He also wanted to be a Chinese teacher in the future. Another student said that the trip to Guangzhou helped him to understand the real China and Guangzhou better. He would share his experience in China with his parents and friends and he also welcomes Chinese people to visit the Republic of Cape Verde.
